Mural Illustrates the Power of Vinyl

TULSA, OK -- There is a large mural on the side of a building along I-44. A News On 6 viewer wanted to find out what it was and who painted it. It turned out the building is not painted at all.  It's actually wrapped in vinyl.

It all started with the mural which might have been painted, but wasn't.

"That wall showcases what can be done digitally. You can put pictures on there," said Frank Fellers.

It is 54 pieces of printed vinyl that covers 230 feet by 25 feet high.

Frank Fellers owns the world's largest vinyl wrap supply company and Sergio DeSoto is his marketing guy. They supply and train vinyl wrappers from all over.

Most of those being trained have sign shops or outdoor advertising businesses back home and recognize that vinyl is the fastest growing segment of the business. And, you can wrap just about anything.

They wrapped a 1967 Pontiac GTO with vinyl that looked like snake skin, but it comes off.

"I can take this back to the original paint job in a matter of hours," said Frank Fellers.

The snake skin job is for fun, but usually it's business.  Many company employee vehicles have been wrapped.  It's like a rolling business card or bill board.

In the shop restroom, the toilet and sink have been vinyl wrapped too.  The possibilities are apparently endless.

Fellers conducts regular classes in both wrapping and design.
