The East Texas town of Palestine thinks vehicle wrapping is a smart, effective form of advertising.
Since Artistic Signs & Graphics of Palestine, 710 W. Main St., opened in October 2004, owner Eric Frye has made it a priority to offer customers the latest technology in the creation of signs, banners and other forms of advertising.
This month the business has kicked off its fifth year of service by offering an increasingly popular method of advertising — car wraps — to its Palestine customers.
“We got the equipment to be able to do car wraps about four months ago,” Artistic Signs owner Eric Frye said Saturday. “I wrapped my truck and my wife’s car as ‘test runs’ and so that we can show people what we can do.”
Car wraps are initially designed on the computer and printed on vinyl material specially designed for the work. A wide format printer divides the design into panels or a seamless design, which is then placed on the vehicle. A special perforated vinyl is used for wrapping windows.
“I am a certified installer of Orcal car wrap vinyl,” Frye said. “Orcal is the only car wrap material that has a five year warranty.”
Car wrap advertising is removable and changeable, if done before the five-year warranty concludes, Frye explained. After about the fourth year, the adhesive begins to become permanent and can damage the car.
While car wraps have been around for a while, Frye said, the technology to produce them has become more affordable over the years, making it a popular trend in advertising.
“To lease a billboard costs about $7,200 a year or more, while a car wrap costs from $4,000 to $5,000 and lasts for as many as five years,” Frye said. “They have become a popular form of advertising, especially in the metropolitan areas and college towns.
“They are so eye-catching, you cannot help but notice them and read them,” he added. “They are like mobile billboards.
According to Frye, Artistic Signs is one of the first business’ in Palestine to offer car wraps to customers, with Tyler being the nearest location to offer the service.
