 Grand Lake Brewery takes it to the streets with some fancy and smart advertising. Just in time for the holiday season, its two vehicles are being wrapped to present enhanced marketing of its locally brewed beers. The new look was created by Winter Park design company O2 Creative.
It may be “all downstream” from the Grand Lake Brewing Company, but its owners and brewers are swiftly swimming upstream with a new advertising campaign.
The wrap idea incorporated several scenes signature to the area and the brewery. The design for the company’s van and Excursion include a majestic mountain landscape in the background, glistening, inviting beer bottles in the foreground, company logo on the front passenger doors and the hood, and famous slogan, “It’s all downstream from here” flowing across the rear of the vehicles.
Brewery co-owner Richard Wood won the professional wrap design, material and printing in a drawing in last year’s Great American Beer Fest by Summit Graphics. He said the brewery was already a satisfied client of the graphics company and chose to have O2 create the design because it was already comfortable with their work.
 O2 Creative designs the labels for their beer and packaging and Wood said, “It just made sense to use them for the vehicle wrap.”
O2 owner Eric Van Herwaarden said it has been a privilege to work on the project, their biggest vehicle wrap yet.
Brewery co-owner Karen Wood said she and Richard are very pleased with the outcome, noting the graphics company’s good turn-around time and professionalism.
“People are just blown away with the design,” she said. “The design is noticeable, beautiful, well-done, and the design just ‘pops’.”
With the new wrap on the company vehicles, the brewing company is hoping to further magnify its marketing budget and impact. The moving advertisement has been found to be much more effective than a billboard. According to research conducted by O2 and the American Trucking Association, more than 90 percent of people notice words and images displayed on trucks. Metro trucks, statistics show, are spotted by 14 million sets of eyes every year.
The brewing company is brimming with positive comments on its labels and packaging. It has been so successful, Richard said, that stores that often only want to shelve two varieties make room for a third “because they know the packaging will sell the beer.” Now, he says, they are receiving the same praise for the vehicle wrap.
 The Grand Lake Brewing Company has nine draught beers and several are available in packs or growlers. One of its three Oktoberfest brews remains on tap through November. Brewmaster Eric Kohl describes it as a Munich-style lager made with German hops, malt and yeast.
Grand Lake Brewing Company distributes throughout the county as well as to 15 Front Range locations. Upcoming brews include an Imperial Red Ale called Rediculous, what Kohl calls a “celebration-style specialty” to commemorate the company’s 100th batch brewed in 2008, “a first for the brewery;” as well as a milk stout “coming on the nitro tap,” local favorite Rebel Pale Ale, and more Super Chicken has just been packaged in 12-oz. bottles.
